Chakra follows the story of an encounter specialist cop, played by Vishal Krishna, who is on a mission to dismantle a cybercrime racket that targets the vulnerable sections of society. The narrative explores the dark underbelly of the digital world, highlighting the dangers of cybercrime and the impact it has on ordinary lives. The story unfolds as the protagonist navigates through a series of investigations, leading to intense confrontations and revelations.
Chakra attempts to blend a high-octane action thriller with a socially relevant theme centered around cybercrime. The screenplay is tightly packed with investigative sequences and action set-pieces, maintaining a brisk pace throughout the first half. The initial portions effectively build tension and establish the stakes, with a clear focus on the protagonist's mission.
However, the second half tends to lose some momentum due to predictable plot developments and a few forced emotional moments. While the narrative tries to balance action with emotional depth, it occasionally falters in maintaining coherence and engagement. The songs are minimal and situational, not standing out as separate highlights but fitting well within the narrative flow.
Yuvan Shankar Raja's background score is one of the film's stronger aspects, effectively enhancing the suspense and intensity during key moments. The cinematography by Balasubramaniem complements the gritty tone of the film, capturing both the urban landscape and action sequences with clarity and style. Overall, Chakra is a decent attempt at a topical thriller with commendable technical aspects but could have benefited from a more nuanced screenplay and stronger character development.
Vishal Krishna: Delivers a committed and intense performance as the encounter specialist, carrying the film's action and emotional weight effectively.
Shraddha Srinath: Provides a solid supporting role with a restrained and convincing portrayal.
Regina Cassandra: Offers a brief but impactful presence, adding to the emotional layers of the story.
Strengths
Weaknesses
M. S. Anandan directs Chakra with a clear vision to highlight cybercrime through a commercial action thriller lens. While the direction succeeds in creating tension and delivering action, it struggles with balancing emotional depth and narrative coherence in the latter half. The writing is focused but could have been more layered to avoid predictability.
