G.D.N is an ambitious biographical drama that attempts to capture the sprawling life of the visionary inventor GD Naidu. The movie starts on an interesting note in the late 1950s with Income Tax officers landing at Naidu's doorstep demanding high taxes, before taking us back to his early days. While the premise is very inspiring, the narrative often feels like reading through a well-researched history textbook rather than watching a deeply emotional drama. The film tries to cover too many milestones from his long life, which makes the pacing feel a bit hurried and flat in places.

The first half focuses on his young days, his fascination with machines, and his rise from humble beginnings to establishing big businesses in pre-independence Coimbatore. Director Krishnakumar Ramakumar recreates the retro era quite nicely, and R. Madhavan brings great energy to the screen. The buildup towards his various inventions keeps the viewer engaged to a good extent. The interval block works surprisingly well, featuring a strong face-off between Jayaram and Sathyaraj that gives a good dramatic punch before the break.

However, the second half loses momentum as it gets bogged down in continuous legal battles with tax authorities and endless bureaucratic hurdles. Rather than focusing on a few key turning points to create emotional tension, the screenplay keeps jumping rapidly from one event to another. Major personal setbacks and life-changing events pass by without leaving much impact on the audience. While there are a few clever moments near the end that highlight Naidu's sharp intelligence, the overall pacing slows down and feels somewhat repetitive.

Performance-wise, R. Madhavan is the absolute soul of the film, delivering a brilliant, multi-layered performance that covers four decades of Naidu's life with remarkable physical and vocal changes. Sathyaraj and Jayaram give solid support in their respective roles, adding good dramatic weight. On the downside, the female cast including Priyamani and Dushara Vijayan are given very underwritten roles with limited screen time. The character development feels surface-level for most supporting actors, which prevents the audience from truly connecting with the emotional core of the story.

On the technical front, the movie is top-notch and looks visually rich throughout. Aravind Kamalanathan's cinematography captures pre-independence Coimbatore with great detail and warm tones. The production design and period-accurate settings deserve special mention. Govind Vasantha’s background score is tasteful and adds much-needed emotional depth to several key scenes. The editing, however, could have been tighter, as it struggles to stitch together the vast timeline smoothly.

Overall, G.D.N is a noble and informative cinematic effort that succeeds in educating the audience about a forgotten Indian legend, even if it fails to emotionally grip you completely. Madhavan’s standout act, high technical values, and authentic period recreation are the main highlights, while the dry, episodic screenplay remains the biggest drawback. It is a decent watch for history lovers, though one might feel the inventor's life had far more spark than the screenplay managed to generate on screen.
