Oorkavalan delivers a classic 1980s Tamil action drama experience with a straightforward story and engaging screenplay. The first half sets up the characters and conflicts effectively, maintaining a steady pace that keeps the audience invested. The second half escalates the tension with well-executed action sequences and emotional moments, although some scenes feel melodramatic by modern standards.

The songs composed by Shankar complement the film’s mood, featuring melodious tunes that blend well with the narrative. The background score enhances the dramatic and action sequences, adding intensity without overpowering the scenes. Cinematography by B. S. Lokanath captures rural settings authentically, supporting the film’s grounded tone.

While the screenplay is conventional, the film benefits from Rajinikanth’s charismatic presence and strong supporting performances. The pacing is consistent, though the film occasionally relies on formulaic tropes typical of its era. Overall, Oorkavalan is a solid entertainer with a mix of action, drama, and music that appeals to fans of classic Tamil cinema.
