Thodari is a thriller set almost entirely on a moving train, where a series of unexpected events unfold involving a group of passengers. The story revolves around Shakthi (Dhanush), a train ticket checker, and his love interest Pooja (Keerthy Suresh). The narrative escalates when a terrorist threat endangers the lives of everyone on board, turning an ordinary train journey into a suspenseful race against time.
Thodari attempts to blend romance, action, and thriller elements within the confined setting of a train, which offers a fresh backdrop for the story. The screenplay maintains a steady pace in the first half, focusing on character introductions and building the romantic subplot, while the second half intensifies with action sequences and suspenseful moments. However, the pacing sometimes falters due to predictable plot points and melodramatic elements.
The film's music by D. Imman complements the mood well, with songs that fit naturally into the narrative without disrupting the flow. The background score effectively heightens tension during critical moments, enhancing the thriller aspect. Cinematography by Vetrivel Mahendran captures the claustrophobic environment of the train convincingly, adding to the immersive experience.
While the concept is engaging, the screenplay could have been tighter to avoid dragging in parts, especially in the middle sections. The blend of romance and action sometimes feels uneven, but the performances and technical aspects help maintain viewer interest throughout.
Dhanush: Charismatic and earnest, Dhanush carries the film with his natural screen presence and emotional depth.
Keerthy Suresh: Offers a charming and sincere portrayal, providing a solid romantic counterpart.
Ganesh Venkatraman: Delivers a convincing performance as the antagonist, adding necessary menace.
