Yaar? presents a gripping storyline that combines suspense with emotional drama, characteristic of mid-1980s Tamil cinema. The screenplay maintains a steady pace, with the first half effectively setting up the mystery and character motivations, while the second half escalates the tension towards a satisfying resolution. The film's pacing is balanced, though some sequences in the middle may feel slightly stretched.

The songs and music, though not credited to a specific music director, complement the mood of the film without overpowering the narrative. The background score effectively heightens the suspense during key moments, adding to the thriller atmosphere. Cinematography by Rajarajan captures the mood well, using lighting and framing to enhance the mysterious tone.

Overall, Yaar? succeeds in delivering a taut thriller experience with competent direction and performances, despite minor pacing issues. The film holds nostalgic value and showcases early performances of actors like Arjun Sarja, contributing to its cult status among Tamil thriller enthusiasts.
