Mere Sapno Ki Rani is a Hindi remake of the Telugu blockbuster Pelli Sandadi, directed by the veteran K. Raghavendra Rao. The film attempts to translate the vibrant, song-heavy, and highly melodramatic style of South Indian commercial cinema to a Bollywood audience. While the central theme of a man searching for his dream girl is a classic romantic trope, the execution feels significantly loud and dated, even for the late 90s.

The first half is largely dedicated to the musical journey and the pursuit of the heroine, featuring the director's signature visual style involving colorful sets and symbolic use of fruits and flowers. However, the screenplay loses its grip in the second half as it becomes bogged down by forced emotional conflicts and a predictable narrative path. The pacing is inconsistent, often hampered by slapstick comedy that fails to land effectively.

Musically, the duo Anand-Milind provided a soundtrack that was one of the film's few highlights, with the title track and 'Payal Ni Chham Chham' gaining popularity. The background score is typical of 90s potboilers, often over-emphasizing the drama. Visually, the film is bright and well-produced, though it lacks the cinematic depth found in other romantic dramas of that era.

Sanjay Kapoor: Sanjay Kapoor delivers an earnest performance as the dreamer Vijay, though he struggles at times to carry the heavy melodramatic weight of the script.

Urmila Matondkar: Urmila Matondkar is the highlight of the film, bringing immense screen presence, glamour, and energy to her role as Sapna.

Madhoo: Madhoo provides a steady performance in a supporting role that eventually forms the third point of the love triangle.
